Leica Camera AG Introduces the Leica Q3 Monochrom: A Masterpiece in Light and Shadow
Wetzlar, Germany – November 2025 – Leica Camera AG proudly announces the launch of the Leica Q3 Monochrom, a groundbreaking addition to its celebrated Q series. This compact full-frame mirrorless camera is dedicated entirely to the art of monochrome, redefining how creators capture the world in light and shadow.
At the heart of the Q3 Monochrom lies a dedicated 60 MP BSI Monochrom sensor, purpose-built without Bayer or Low Pass filters. This innovation allows the camera to record only pure values of light, delivering unmatched tonal accuracy, sharpness, and detail. By focusing solely on luminosity, the sensor achieves twice the light-gathering capability of an equivalent color sensor, resulting in cleaner files, lower noise output, and a greater dynamic range with more nuanced tonal gradations. The omission of debayering ensures that every pixel reflects the sensor’s native resolution, preserving the integrity of each image.
For filmmakers, the Q3 Monochrom introduces 8K monochromatic video recording with LOG and HLG support—the highest resolution output ever offered by a dedicated monochrome full-frame camera. Combined with Leica’s Content Credentials, a world-first for monochrome systems, creators can safeguard the authenticity of their work while exploring the cinematic potential of black-and-white storytelling.
The camera also debuts Leica’s acclaimed new user interface, first seen in the SL3 series, designed to streamline workflows for professionals. A firmware update scheduled for late 2025 will extend this UI to Q3 and Q3 43 users.
Visually, the Q3 Monochrom embodies Leica’s philosophy of understated luxury. The omission of the iconic red dot allows its refined black-and-grey design to take center stage, reflecting a discreet yet striking aesthetic that speaks to Leica’s heritage of timeless craftsmanship.
