Ricoh Imaging's latest introduction: RICOH GR IV Monochrome, a new addition to the GR lineup crafted exclusively for the art of black‑and‑white photography. Built on the foundation of the acclaimed GR IV premium compact camera, this model is purpose‑engineered to deliver a pure monochrome experience.

The GR IV Monochrome features a dedicated monochrome image sensor that removes the colour filter and eliminates the need for colour interpolation. This allows the camera to fully leverage the renowned GR lens, producing exceptional sharpness, refined detail, and beautifully rich tonal gradation. The result is monochrome imagery with remarkable depth and clarity.

To further expand creative expression, the camera includes a built‑in red filter for striking contrast, along with two newly developed Image Control modes designed specifically for monochrome shooting. Together, they offer photographers a versatile palette of distinctive black‑and‑white looks.

MAIN FEATURES:

Monochrome-dedicated design

Designed for pure monochrome performance, the camera features an Anti Alias (AA) filterless, monochrome‑dedicated APS‑C CMOS sensor delivering approximately 25.74 megapixels of high‑definition detail. Unlike colour sensors that rely on interpolation, each pixel captures direct light and true luminance information. The result is exceptionally sharp black‑and‑white rendering with rich tonal gradation, enhanced detail, and the ability to create expressive grain thanks to its high‑sensitivity capabilities.

Built-in red filter in the lens unit

A built‑in red filter that toggles on or off with one step lets only red light pass through, creating more dramatic monochrome effects—deepening blue skies for stronger contrast and brightening red subjects to make them stand out.

Support for diverse monochrome expressions

The camera features monochrome-dedicated Image Control options to enable a wide range of monochrome expressions. “Solid” uses a hard tonal curve to express a crisp, clean look, and renders edges with refined clarity. “Grainy,” characterized by a strong grain effect, delivers a finish reminiscent of silver-halide prints and printed materials by avoiding complete highlight blowout and preventing shadows from being crushed to solid black, while producing grain that is clearly visible even on smart devices.
